Fernwood State Forest #1

Year Planted: 2000
Trees Planted: 90,700
Location: Ohio

This two-year project assisted in the reforestation of a former mining site that had been purchased by the Ohio DNR Division of Forestry as an addition to Fernwood State Forest. The area was mined in the early 1980s and reclaimed to grasses. This project will restore the area to its former forest ecosystem, thereby providing diverse wildlife habitat and reinforcing the riparian buffer zone on the Cross Creek watershed. In the first year of the project 90,700 trees were planted on 126 acres.

This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
