Barron County Reforestation

Year Planted: 2000
Trees Planted: 79,800
Location: Wisconsin

Barron County Forest and Recreation Administration is returning lands from cropland to a forested condition. This two year reforestation project in 1999 and 2000 resulted in the planting of 79,800 trees. Both seedlings and acorns were planted on three sites that were formerly used as cropland. Each site planted is adjacent to or has a stream threading through the property, and the new forest will better protect these waterways from soil erosion. The grazing animals will be removed from the forested areas which will allow the riparian zones to heal. Additionally, an increase of publicly owned forested lands will increase opportunity for recreation. The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources also supported this project.

This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
