Econfina Creek Water Management Area I

Year Planted: 1996
Trees Planted: 160,000
Location: Florida

The Econfina Creek Water Management Area, consisting of 7,000 acres, is managed under the multiple-use concept by the Northwest Florida Water Management District. The District is one of five created for the conservation, protection, management and control of surface and ground waters in the State. Econfina Creek is considered to be one of the most pristine waterways in Florida and has superb scenery and unique geologic and hydrologic features, making it a favorite of canoeists. A 220 acre parcel was first prescribed burned to remove the off-site sand pine, slash pine and turkey oak and then planted with 160,000 native long-leaf pine tubelings.

This project was supported by our corporate partner, the Alcoa Foundation.
