Goals

•  Restore 400 acres of grazing land back to forest

Notable Highlights

American Forests is partnering with the 'Village Reconstruction and Development Project' (VRDP) in rural India. The people of this area are struggling to secure their livelihoods in a region greatly affected by climate change. Water is becoming scarcer and traditional crops are failing. This tree planting project will help to alleviate these issues.

The region is located in a tribal area that has experienced many difficulties. About 50 years ago the forest was in much better condition. Conservation legislation strived to protect the forest but in doing so, forced people off their land. With the area uninhabited, wood smugglers were able to cut down a large number of trees. In many cases, trees also were cut in the name of development projects, including roads, schools, offices, and hospitals. This project will help to benefit 1,500 families that have been affected by these difficulties.
