The St. Johns River Water Management District will increase the longleaf pine trees on the Hal Scott Regional Preserve and Park, which is located east of Orlando, in Orange County. The project area was logged prior to the District ownership and the reforestation project will increase the pine density for the endangered red-cockaded woodpeckers, there are nine family units and the property can support up to fifteen. It will also benefit the gopher tortoises, indigo snakes, Sherman's fox squirrels, bald eagles, wood storks, Audubon's crested caracara, Florida sandhill cranes and a total of 167 documented migratory birds. With the support of American Forests the St. Johns Water Management District will plant over 50,000 trees.
