The nomination deadline for the Spring 2012 edition of the National Register of Big Trees is March 1. Nominations submitted after the deadline will be considered for the updated edition of the register in the fall.

Trees are ranked by total points based on the following formula: Circumference (inches) + Height (feet) + ¼ Crown Spread (feet).

The tree with the most total points is crowned national champion.
