The Maine Wildlife Park began as a pheasant farm, but in 1981, it was transformed into an environmentally pleasing, recreational getaway. Located in southwest Maine, the park is known for its diverse wildlife and abundance of native tree species, including the eastern white pine. Many of the 150- to 200-year-old eastern white pines in the park have diameters of three to four feet and are 80 to 100 feet tall. These trees play a huge role in the recreational aspects that the park offers, which include areas to eat lunch and host birthday parties. American Forest is working with the Maine Wildlife Park to help plant 30 six- to 10-foot white pines in order to establish a distribution of trees that is comparable to that of the existing trees.
