Location: Pennsylvania

In April 1990, a severe forest fire burned approximately 10,000 acres of land in Pennsylvania. The Sproul State Forest, part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed, was affected by the burn. In 2001 volunteers planted 11,000 black cherry and white pine. Tree shelters were also installed for protection from deer. Benefits of this project include the reforestation of fire area, enhanced visual quality of the area, replacement of lost wildlife habitat and soil stabilization. Partners in this project included the PA DCNR Bureau Forestry, who donated the seedlings, Penn ReLeaf, Hardwood Plywood and Veneer Association, Sproul Forest District, the Pennsylvania Forestry Association and other volunteers.
