The Sproul State Forest, part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed, was affected by the burn. In 1999 volunteers planted 8,100 red oak, maple, aspen and tulip poplars. Tree shelters were also installed for protection from deer. Benefits of this project include the reforestation of fire area, an increase in biodiversity and wildlife habitat. Partners in this project included Pennslyvania Bureau of Forestry, Penn ReLeaf, Hardwood Plywood and Veneer Association, Walnut Acres of Penns Creek, and the Pennsylvania Forestry Association.
