Spring ’93 Global ReLeaf Actions in Slovakia

Year Planted: 1993

Trees Planted: 14,816
Location: Slovakia

This series of 6 partial projects (collectively under the name ‘The Green Tradition of Life’) marked the beginning of Global ReLeaf Slovakia, a project of the Slovak Union of Nature and Landscape Protectors (S.Z.O.P.K.), the country’s oldest environmental NGO and Global ReLeaf International Partner since 1991. The plantings took place in the following areas: Tatras National Park, Protected Landscape Area Stiavnica Hills, Housing Development ‘Drienova’ at Banska Stiavnica (as part of ‘Earth Day ’93’ celebrations), and Housing Development ‘Breziny’ at Dolny Kubin (as part of a ‘Global ReLeaf Welcoming’ ceremony). The reason these projects were chosen was the extremely dry spring in Slovakia, which made only a few locations feasible for rapid planting. Local organizations of S.Z.O.P.K. were responsible for the care and maintenance of the trees.
