Southwest Oklahoma Riparian Restoration Project

Year Planted: 1997

Trees Planted: 10,300
Location: Oklahoma

The Great Plains Resource Conservation and Development Association planted 15,300 mixed hardwood seedlings on riparian areas in Washita, Beckham and Roger Mills counties in Oklahoma. Several sites were planted with trees. In Roger Mills County, tree planting took place in the Black Kettle National Grasslands and along several county right of ways where riparian areas could use more trees. Washita County planted trees on existing riparian areas in the city of Cordell and in Beckham County trees were added along the shoreline of a 40 acre flood control structure at the North Fork Environmental Center. These trees in riparian areas will improve water quality, wildlife habitat and recreation. The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture Forestry Service also helped to fund this project.
