Name of Project: Priority ReLeaf
Location: Duquesne, MO
Number of Trees: 50
In the past year, thousands of trees have been lost in Missouri as a result of major storm events — most notably the tornado that struck Joplin and its neighbor Duquesne on May 22, 2011. American Forests is working with Missouri’s Priority ReLeaf program to restore and sustain trees in areas that have been victims of natural disasters. This project will plant 50 large-caliper native species in a new municipal park in Duquesne. This planting will benefit multiple aspects of the city’s urban forest by adding to the city’s overall tree canopy.
