Pine and Waiska Watershed Watersheds Riparian Headwaters Restoration

Year Planted: 2007
Trees Planted: 3,700
Location: Michigan

More than 3,700 long-lived conifer species will be planted along the headwater streams of the Pine River and Waiska River watersheds. Logging in the area has resulted in an abundance of short-lived species that provide neither the shade, nor the long-term structural stability needed for the health of the streams. Partnering with American Forests, Hiawatha National Forest will increase the large woody debris that is needed for a healthy coldwater fishery habitat.
