Patapsco River Valley State Park #1

Year Planted: 1998

Trees Planted: 7,000
Location: Maryland

This project by American Forests and the Maryland DNR Forest Service created over a half mile of crucial riparian forest habitat along a tributary of the Patpasco River by planting 7,000 mixed hardwood trees. The planting site was previously used as a pasture for cattle, which had free access to the stream and the surrounding riparian area. This forest buffer will help to improve water quality, prevent streambank erosion, will remove cattle from the stream and riparian area, and will enhance the wildlife habitat. Additionally, the planting will hopefully generate interest from the surrounding farming community. This planting will lead to the restoration of the local watershed and the Chesapeake Bay.
