The area consists of a wet prairie/marsh mix, a converted muck farm that once grew watermelons. The District wants to restore these rare sandhill communities with a ecosystem management approach, by controlling dog fennel and bahai grass, and by planting longleaf pine and wire-grass, and by judicious use of prescribed fire.
