35,711 loblolly pine were planted on 67 acres owned by North End Elementary School in Roxboro, North Carolina. In an effort to manage their land responsibly, the Person County School Board called on the state forester’s office to help with a woodland management plan. On the ground studies and aerial photography revealed a pine beetle infestation and trees that were not growing as well as soil maps in the area suggest is possible. This necessitated the removal of many of the school’s trees. This planting will both reforest the site and improve the aesthetics of the school grounds. The site was harvested, control burned and reforested under the supervision of the North Carolina Division of Forest Resources.
