The plantings were designed to re-green communities and increase native broadleaf tree population in a more urban setting. The project was a joint effort between the school community and local tree experts. The ultimate goal, beyond the educational and direct ecological benefit, is to create a wildlife corridor by connecting the planting sites with other forested areas. Plantings sites are located in areas viewed as barren, where public apathy has led to vandalism and general disrespect for the environment. The trees should give the community renewed interested in and hope for these areas.
