Located in Elko County, in northeast Nevada, a phase two planting helped to reestablish forest cover to the riparian area along Marys River in order to enhance the habita… Read More Year Planted: 1994 Located in Elko County, in northeast Nevada, a phase two planting helped to reestablish forest cover to the riparian area along Marys River in order to enhance the habitat of the threatened Lahontan cutthroat trout. This riparian area had been previously overgrazed and was degraded. Volunteers from as far away as Reno assisted the Bureau of Land Management plant quaking aspen, common chokecherry, mountain alder and black cottonwood to help stabilize streambanks, maintain lower water temperatures and increase species diversity. The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation also assisted with this project.
