Since then, nearly 4,000 acres have been replanted with longleaf pine, but at least two more years of planting are needed before most of the burned uplands are reforested. The destroyed pine was replaced with 313,950 longleaf seedlings, a tree that has been overharvested in the past. This is part of ongoing efforts made all over the southeastern United States to restore longleaf pine forests.
