Trees Planted: 149,000
Location: Canada

In July 1996 severe flooding struck the Saguenay River region. The floods swept away homes, highways, bridges, charted new channels for rivers and transformed parks and wooded landscapes into empty flood plains. Pristine landscape was replaced with slabs of sand and mud and left the land scarred. The flooding was one of the worst natural disasters to hit an urban area in Canada. In 1998 Tree Canada Foundation planted 149,100 trees and shrubs near the damaged community of La Baie, which is located near the mouth of the Ha!Ha! river that empties into the Saguenay river. This project will restore the damaged watershed area and will return the landscape to its natural condition. Eddie Bauer was also a sponsor of the project.
