The program establishes forested buffers along the banks of the James River and its tributaries. It also provides assistance to landowners with conservation easements and implementing erosion control, shoreline improvements, and tree planting programs. The program has contributed significantly to the Chesapeake Bay Program’s goal of 2010 miles of vegetated riparian buffers by the year 2010.
