A 40-year-old red pine plantation, damaged in a 2004 fire, has little hope for natural regeneration from surviving red pines or adjacent oak forests. American Forests is supporting the hand planting of 5,250 white pine and 1,500 northern red oak to help preserve the soil and initiate a native forest.
