Improving the visual quality along major tourist routes in northeastern Minnesota was the primary objective of this project, which stretched from Virginia to International Falls. The Minnesota DNR planted over 100,000 trees, including white pine, white spruce, oak and maple, along Highway 53. These trees were planted randomly, as opposed to straight rows, to create the look of a natural forest.
