Year Planted: 1993

Trees Planted: 92,656
Location: Ohio

On the Harrison State Forest in eastern Ohio, 161 acres of strip-mined area was restored with the planting of 92,656 mixed hardwoods. The site consists of the ridgetops of rolling hills that were originally forested but had been strip-mined. At the time of planting the site was beginning to heal with the production grasses and forbs. This project will convert the area more quickly to forest cover than if it were left to natural successional development. This was the largest tree planting project on state forest land in many years. Partners of American Forests for this project included the Ohio DNR Divisions of Forestry and Litter Prevention and Recycling.
