The site has been farmed previously for corn and soybeans. Trees were machine planted to help restore the area’s natural hydrology, provide wildlife habitat by expanding contiguous forest land and restore wetland habitat along the Chesapeake Bay. The project is part of a consolidation of previously farmed lands into large, contiguous blocks of forest land managed by the Maryland DNR Forest and Park Service. Assistance in this project also came from the Maryland DNR and the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
