The site was burned by the Hens Peak Fire in 1996. 100 acres were planted in an area that experienced high burn intensity, therefore regeneration was not occurring naturally. Trees were planted with the help of Loa Elementary students and the youth group Aspen Youth Alternatives to restore the area to a sustainable ecosystem. Additional funding was provided by Plant a Tree and the National Arbor Day Foundation.
