Farragut State Park

Year Planted: 1991

Trees Planted: 200,000
Location: Idaho

A Heritage Forest was established in 1991 on 500 acres of the Farragut State Park on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille. This restoration of the forest cover is a multi-year project planting opportunity. The area was cleared during World War II to reestablish an inland naval training base. The first planting increment of 250 acres with 100,000 genetically improved White Pine became the first Heritage Forest west of the Mississippi. In the fall, another 250 acres were planted with 100,000 Western Larch, Douglas Fir, Ponderosa Pine, Western White Pine, and Englemann Spruce.
