These fires devastated all vegetative cover on approximately 4,257 acres. Ponderosa pine and douglas fir trees were planted to stabilize the soil, protect the watershed, restore hiding cover and pockets of thermal cover for wildlife, provide commercial forest products and to increase biodiversity of the forests. Funding for the project also came from tribal and federal sources.
