Treetures are cartoon characters who represent environmental awareness. The Treeture program teaches kids about the importance of caring for and planting trees. Tree were planted in a park adjacent to the Bronx River Reservation. This area is considered a flood zone, and so no enhancement or reforestation efforts were ever made. The planting took place within a park area so that students and residents can monitor the growth of the trees on a regular basis. Each child was awarded a certificate which displays their participation in helping plant the trees. The Eastchester Highway Department supervised the work and the seedlings and small trees were purchased through the New York Department of Environmental Conservation. Additional partners included the Town of Eastchester, The Girl Scouts and the Treeture Environmental Education Program.
