Duncan Canyon Tree Replant

In 2001, the Star Fire burned approximately 16,00 acres in Tahoe National Forest. The US Forest Service has been unable to replant all of the burned acreage. The forest Foundation is partnering with Western States 100 Endurance Run volunteers to replant the Duncan Canyon area of the Star Fire. In 2008, a group consisting of Forest Foundation staff and volunteers from the Western States Endurance run, local high school students and community members were successful in planting 4,000 trees in this area. The Forest Foundation plans to replant in Duncan Canyon again in the spring. The area being replanted is also the location for the Western States Endurance Trail. This is the site of an annual 100 mile marathon that begins in Squaw Valley and ends in Auburn, California.
