Croatan National Forest, Fish Day Wildfire

Year Planted: 1995

Trees Planted: 10,000
Location: North Carolina

The Fish Day fire destroyed 40 of 52 acres of an 8 year old longleaf pine plantation in North Carolina. The remaining 12 acres were damaged, but survival was high enough to continue management activities. This project restored 10,000 longleaf pine at the site. This project is particularly important as longleaf pine sites are limited in the Croatan National Forest but are important to coastal plains ecosystems for plant diversity and red-cockaded woodpecker habitat.
