Number of Trees Planted: 35,000

Directly Benefits: Outdoor recreationalists, forest wildlife

Location: Santa Fe National Forest, New Mexico

Year: 2011

Goals

  • Reforest 155 acres
  • Secure watershed to ensure continued fishing opportunities
  • Restore habitat for wildlife

 Notable Highlights

American Forests is partnered with the US Forest Service to reforest areas within the Santa Fe National Forest damaged by wildfires. The Santa Fe National Forest was established in 1915 and is one of five national forests in New Mexico.

Reforesting the area will eventually increase habitat for mule deer, elk, turkey, black bear, mountain lion, bighorn sheep, and a variety of songbirds. The project also will help reduce erosion into nearby streams and lakes, improving water quality and habitat for aquatic species.
