In 2000 and 2001 the Wisconsin DNR planted 100,000 jack and white pine trees on 111 acres and directly seeded 65 additional acres with jack pine. Reforestation of this site will protect the Big Creek trout fishery, re-stabilize sandy soils to prevent erosion, create commercial forest products, restore and maintain native plant/animals communities and provide the public with hunting and fishing grounds, outdoor recreational and environmental educational opportunities.
