In an attempt to re-establish the once regal and dominant white pine, 7,500 white pine trees were planted in the Red Lake Wildlife Management Area of the Beltrami Island … Read More Year Planted: 1996 In an attempt to re-establish the once regal and dominant white pine, 7,500 white pine trees were planted in the Red Lake Wildlife Management Area of the Beltrami Island State Forest in Minnesota. This area had previously been logged and burned and then was invaded by balsam fir and aspen. Through this project the area will be converted to the longer lived pine species. Benefits of this project including wildlife habitat creation for deer, bears, and birds and recreational opportunities. The Minnesota DNR Section of Wildlife provided direction for this project and the Minnesota Conservation Corp planted the trees.
