A second section of the Bass River State Forest, damaged by a wildfire in 1999, was reforested by the New Jersey Forest Service with 32,250 shortleaf, loblolly and pitch pine. Volunteers planted approximately 4,000 of those trees. The area is designated for intensive forest management and this planting will help promote additional forest management activities. Benefits include educational programs and promoting the necessity of healthy forests for the future. Additionally, a study will be conducted to understand the benefits of mycorrhizae on seedings.
