Trees Planted: 61,500
Location: Virginia

The Virginia Department of Forestry planted 61,500 loblolly pine on 123 acres in Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest and in Cumberland State Forest. These areas had been severely damaged by the southern pine bark beetle and then by two severe sleet storms. All pine stands over the age of 15 were affected and many stands were totally destroyed. The forest is used by the public for multiple uses, including hunting, fishing, hiking, soil and water conservation, timber production, applied research, education and demonstration. Additionally, the planting occurred on land that is part of the Chesapeake Bay watershed.
