Celebrate this Holiday Season with Trees!

WASHINGTON, DC (November 26, 2007) When President Bush lights the National Christmas Tree on December 5, he continues a long-standing tradition that began with a gift from AMERICAN FORESTS in 1924. That gift, accepted by President and Mrs. Coolidge, was a 40-year-old, 35-foot Norway spruce, and it became the first living symbol of Christmas for the entire nation — the National Community Christmas Tree. Today, officials predict 30 million to 35 million families will bring home a cut Christmas tree this year. Anne Frank Chestnut Granted Temporary Pardon

The historic chestnut tree that stands outside of the apartment where Anne Frank hid during WWII has been granted a temporary pardon until February 1, 2008. According to the BBC, an Amsterdam judge ruled on the day the tree was scheduled to be cut down that all possible options must be considered to save the tree. . READ MORE






Forest Devastatioin of Hurricands Katrina and Rita



Hurricanes Katrina and Rita caused ecological devastation that is only now being fully understood via satellite imagery, according to the Washington Post. Considered the largest forestry disaster to ever occur in the nation, these storms killed or damaged approximately 320 million trees throughout Mississippi and Louisiana.
