American Forests Launches Global ReLeaf2 Campaign
American Forests launches Global ReLeaf2 campaign
with goal to plant 100 million trees by 2020. GET INVOLVED

Summer's Here: Be Cool
Lately it seems that everyone is talking about climate change. That’s important because earth’s temperatures are skyrocketing—and we humans are the cause. With so much talk of melted polar ice caps, warmer oceans, and excessive heat and drought, it may seem that small steps can’t help.

But they can.

Planting trees is a practical, low-cost, and effective way to begin removing CO2 from the atmosphere right now. Excess carbon is released when fossil fuels like coal and gasoline are burned to release energy and that carbon, in the form of carbon dioxide—CO2—a greenhouse gas, blankets the earth and causes temperatures to rise.
Click here for more information on three ways you can help offset the negative effects of carbon in the atmosphere: Plant a tree in your yard, join a community group and plant trees where you live, or plant trees with American Forests. Urge your local newspaper to use American Forests’ Public Service ads; click here to see them.

Big Trees in 2008

The deadline is almost here. American Forests will cease taking nominations August 1 for the 2008 National Register of Big Trees, which features the largest known of 826 tree species from across the nation. No one knows yet who the winners will be; check out the Spring 2008 issue of American Forests magazine to see which champions were toppled and which kept their titles.  After all, you never know what size tree will be discovered. Who knows, that somebody could be you! Click here for more information and start hunting!

Buy an Oklahoma Survivor Tree

The Oklahoma Survivor Tree withstood the April 1995 bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City. The American elm stood in a parking lot just yards from the blast and now anchors the memorial to those who died or were injured there. A plaque in front of the tree reads, “the spirit of this city and this nation will not be defeated; our deeply rooted faith sustains us.” You now can own an offspring from this special tree. Each 1- to 3-foot sapling comes with a certificate of authenticity. Click here to purchase your own Survivor Tree or call 800/320-TREE (8733).

Can We Coexist?
How can we find a way to thrive without jeopardizing the environment?  The Spring 2007 issue of American Forests includes a new take on the human network and the environment. The constant expansion of roadways and building projects is taking a toll on surrounding ecosystems. This article tackles this all too timely issue and offers some profound insight. The Summer issue also offers news what’s being planted, what Big Tree champ is on the brink, and, as always, advice from our Tree Doctor. Click here to read more.

Religion and Climate Change

As the debate over our response to global warming heats up, new voices are being heard. CNN reports that more than 20 religious groups are urging Congress and President Bush to take action, saying: “Global warming is real, it is human-induced and we have the responsibility to act.” American Forests magazine has documented the involvement of the faith community in the global warming debate.
