We can’t live without forests. They are the source of the air we breathe and water we drink. Forests provide a home for most wildlife and are critical to our planet’s biodiversity. And they provide one of our primary defenses against climate change.

The health of the planet urgently demands our attention and action. While there is much to do, protecting and restoring our forests is one the most important and effective ways to ensure the long term health of life on the planet and for its inhabitants. At American Forests, our goal is to inspire and advance the conservation of forests. We do this by protecting and restoring forest ecosystems, promoting and expanding urban forests and advancing the understanding of the importance of forests.

Our work is grounded in the following beliefs:

  • Forests are essential to life on earth.
  • We are not separate from nature. By caring for nature, we care for ourselves.
  • As forests become less resilient, climate change accelerates, water becomes more scarce and air becomes more polluted and more difficult to breathe.
  • Together we can make a difference: one tree at a time, one acre at a time, one species at a time, one ecosystem at a time. Every positive action we take is a step toward healing our planet.
  • Time is of the essence. We must act now.

No matter where you live, forests make a difference to quality of life for your family, your community, and for all living things.
