As centers for recreation, our public forests provide a retreat for millions of people each year. They offer a place to exercise and observe nature. They serve as a spiritual retreat, a living classroom and even a workplace. Yet, these valuable resources face many threats from man and nature alike and need to be continually managed, protected and restored. If we do not work to give our forests the care that they require, we run the risk of losing the many benefits they provide.
