9am- 4pm, $100
Location: City Hall, Charlotte
Organized by: American Forests. Register on conference registration form.

This hands-on training will teach you to use American Forests’ CITYgreen for ArcGIS desktop computer software. Calculate the urban forest dollar benefits of urban trees for air and water quality, stormwater runoff reduction, and carbon sequestration and storage. This technique will help you make urban forests relevant to public policy makers. No prior GIS experience necessary. Learn about different types of imagery and field data collection techniques. Two people per computer.

Saturday, November 19
Greener Cities; Cleaner Water Workshop
Using Green Infrastructure to Enhance Ecosystem Services and Satisfy Stormwater Regulations
9am-4pm, $100
Location: The Westin-Charlotte Hotel
Organized by: American Forests. Register on conference registration form.

Over 10,000 communities are facing significant challenges in meeting EPA's water quality regulations, under Phase II of the Clean Water Act. Improving the size and quality of your green infrastructure is a cost effective Best Management Practice, but few communities recognize this opportunity or know how to implement it. This day-long workshop brings together hydrologists, urban foresters, city practitioners, GIS analysts, and software developers to show you how.

This workshop will demonstrate:

  • The fundamentals of stormwater runoff and water quality and how these are affected by landcover.
  • How to use non-structural best management practices to achieve stormwater runoff reduction and water quality requirements
  • How to calculate the benefits of using trees and other green infrastructure to slow stormwater runoff and improve water quality
  • Reporting tools for critical path implementation of stormwater management plans
